Children and teachers in 1947
Update 23/5/2011: Date of photo changed to 1947. Thanks to Simon Knott
How lovely to see my Mum Joy in her school days. I have never seen this picture before but do remember hearing some of the names. Looking forward to seeing more pictures added to this brilliant site!

Those were the days ! eh ?
It’s a bit pedantic of me, but could this be 1947 rather than 1948? My mum, standing just right of centre, was born in Feb 1936 and left to go to the Cromwell School in Chatteris in July 1947.
Not pedantic at all. We value comments from readers. This helps to keep the web site accurate. I will look into this further. For now, I will leave it as 1948. It could be your mum was invited back for the photo.
Simon is probably right.
My mother Gillian Haynes is the little girl first on the left in the front row.
She is the daughter of Jack Haynes featured in one of the historical stories, writen by her brother Fred Haynes; who now lives near Wisbeach.
She married Doug Allen; who was stationed at the ordenance corp camp at Ely. She now lives in Manchester.
Thanks – again, for your information, My mother Marion Knott née Cornwell, fifth from the right of the middle row, with her arm around a younger child, is alive and well and living in Cambridge. Her children live in Cambridge, Ipswich and Exeter, and she has seven grandchildren, one of whom lives in Mexico! Her brother Sonny Cornwell, the tallest boy in the back row here, lives in Ely.
Loved the photo. Peggy Smith is my late father half sister. He was Joseph Carter of Nadine Dewsbury and Ernest Carter of the round house.. First photo i have ever seen of her.
